This tour winds through Charleston’s “haunted district.” You will walk through narrow alleyways and garden-lined streets as you visit many of Charleston’s most beautiful homes, churches and cemeteries. The tour concludes at the Old Exchange Building which includes the Old Provost Dungeon. The old Exchange Building is famous for many things – architectural gem, Revolutionary War prison where Isaac Hayne was housed and hung by the British after escaping conscription by the British Army and rejoining the Patriots, slave market ironically located on the same grounds where the Declaration of Independence was read to local citizens. All of this history is overlaid with tales of “local color,” many of whose ghosts.
All ages welcome.
