Soak up the atmosphere of the bayou on this 8-hour cultural tour from New Orleans. Visit the Oak Alley Plantation House, dating from 1837, and view the stately row of 28 evenly spaced mature oaks that line the driveway. Follow your guide, dressed in period costume, through the mansion, the blacksmith shop and the onsite restaurant. Then, learn about life in the bayou's waterways aboard a swamp and wetlands boat tour. See the amazing variety of flora and fauna native to the area and hear about life in the Barataria Swamps from your native guides. Round-trip transportation from New Orleans is included.

What You'll Do

Walking is required for this tour. Plantation house to the restaurant and souvenir shop is about one block in distance. There are benches along the path, shaded by the Oaks.

Swamp and Wetlands Adventure: The New Orleans swamp tour boats are fully narrated and our captains are natives of the Barataria Swamps with a background of gator hunting, fishing and trapping. They will entertain you and amaze you with the ecology of the swampland. They have lived the life! Here, birds, snakes, turtles, fur animals, and gators are the kings of the swamp and easily spotted in spring, summer, and fall. Gators do hibernate during the cold winter months, but lay on the bayou banks on warmer days. So even in Winter, our native Captains can sometimes find a sunning Gator on our tour. The slow drift of our tour boats through moss draped trees and small waterways, will provide ample opportunity for viewing and photography. Your comfort is guaranteed on our tour boats. They have a roof, restroom, cushioned seats, and windows that can be raised or lowered during cold or rainy weather, along with plenty of standing and walking room. These tours are entertaining, educational and exciting.

"We enjoyed our day trip..."

January 1, 2018 -

We enjoyed our day trip to Oak Alley plantation, and the swamp boat tour. It was a great way to spend a full day outside of the city. The plantation tour was interesting as it was immaculately maintained, and the host explained a dark time in Louisiana's history though I would have preferred a bit more time to explore the area on our own. The swamp tour was a lot of fun, and the highlight was being able to hold a baby alligator. If I were to do the trip over, I would have paid extra for the faster fan-boat tour rather than taking the slower, larger boat.

Great trip, beautiful plantation! The trees were amazing.

"LeMonde was our driver for..."

November 17, 2017 -

LeMonde was our driver for the day and he was very informative and kept everything on schedule. He pointed out many points of interest as we went by.
The tour of Oak Alley was amazing. Tara, was our tour guide in the house. She was very articulate and spoke clearly as she gave us the story of the families and the history of this grand home. I just would have liked a bit more time to be able to explore this gorgeous plantation.

Capt. Rob, a native to the area, was able to give us a great tour of the swamp with his personal experience and stories. We were treated to multiple 'gator' sightings with a real treat of getting a good look at a large gator posing on the bogs! Loved 'Elvis' ,Capt .Rob 's junior gator on board. We all learned a lot about the precious swamps and the animals , reptiles and birds that inhabit it them.

"The Oak Alley plantation was..."

October 1, 2017 -

The Oak Alley plantation was spectacular.
Would recommend that when you arrive before the tour of the mansion if you have time, to go to the front gate and get
the wonderful shots looking down the alley of oaks. We did this after the mansion tour we found that we were then rushed for time to get back on the bus to go to the swamp tour. I think there should be at least 15/20 more minutes spent at oak alley.
The swamp tour was great, got to hold a baby alligator and see them being fed etc.
Would recommend this tour if you are visiting New Orleans

"Oak Alley plantation was beautiful...."

August 12, 2017 -

Oak Alley plantation was beautiful. The tour was very informative. Just the right amount of time. We also enjoyed our Swamp Boat tour. We saw many alligators, some turtles and a blue heron. We were allowed to feed the alligators marshmallows and even hold a baby alligator.

"Overall the tour was good..."

July 31, 2017 -

Overall the tour was good and the bus driver very informative. Unfortunately, due to a late hotel pickup and then have the most disorganized tour company, I've ever experienced. We had passengers onboard that hadn't bought their tickets, pay onboard and then we had to wait for more passengers from another bus. This took a good 30 minutes. This late start cut into my Oak Alley Plantation tour and I missed numerous exhibits with only about 1.5 hours, instead of the promised 2 hours. Until the Louisiana Tour Company gets their act together, I would not recommend this tour.

"Very friendly tour guide picked..."

July 19, 2017 -

Very friendly tour guide picked our group of 6 up from our hotel right on time. Driver was very fun and friendly. Oak Alley was gorgeous and we had just the right amount of time to spend there. Swamp boat tour was a lot of fun we took the big covered boat not an air boat. Got back to the hotel around 5-6pm. Head a great time - definitely recommend!

"This was the best ever...."

June 5, 2017 -

This was the best ever. Loved the plantation. Tony our boat guide introduced us to big Loretta. On the way back we got to hold his baby gator. Just awesome and will do it again.

"Plantation tour was great! There..."

October 28, 2016 -

Plantation tour was great! There were only 2 very small alligators - we went end of October - maybe there Are alligator seasons ? I did hear that September is alligator hunting season so maybe that's why so few. So yes to the plantation but no to the swamp tour - in Oct.

Oak Alley was wonderful- our driver was very fun and informative.
the swamp boat tour was amazing with lots of photo opportunities. i do highly recommend this tour.

"Both were good. I especially..."

July 25, 2016 -

Both were good. I especially liked the swamp tour. Our guide was fantastic. We had a lot of fun taking pictures of gators and turtle and watching him playing with gators.

The only complaint I had was that the bus driver was actually going to leave without me instead of counting heads. I was in bathroom, and almost missed the bus going back to the hotel. Maybe, he had said when to meet, but the instruction was not super clear.

"We enjoyed the tour. It..."

July 10, 2016 -

We enjoyed the tour. It was well organized. The transportation was good. The guides were friendly and knowledgable.

"I have done multiple Viator..."

June 1, 2016 -

I have done multiple Viator tours in multiple different countries. In general I feel like the sights are always worth it, though the variables in logistics control what makes the trip enjoyable: transport method, guide, timing, lunch, fellow tour attendees etc. The more transparent the company is about these changeable elements, the better the trip.
This tour was not very transparent. You switch buses 2-3 times, maybe drivers, people on your tour have different plantations booked, and are maybe taking a different boat tour than you are apparently there was a swamp boat tour option for some people, but not during my booking process. That said, everything ran smoothly, I just like knowing options and routes in advance. The mini-van was plenty roomy and comfortable, the guides personable, none of the drives were too long. There isn't a whole lot to do at Oak Alley besides the house tour, and taking pictures of the pretty estate. I felt I would have liked to have seen MORE plantations for comparison. The swamp tour isn't really in the midst of the bayou, trees etc.--you're mostly out in open water which is not as interesting as I expected. The guide acknowledged this discrepancy about people's perceptions of the swamp, but it looked like there were other options for smaller or more intimate boats that could take you more interesting places. If you want to see/hold alligators though, this tour definitely delivers. Note the airboats are super loud and people had to wear noiseblockers on them.

"Good tour, however more time..."

May 25, 2016 -

Good tour, however more time needs to be allotted for the Plantation tour and less for the Swamp boat tour, seemed in proportionate for the level of interest in each site.

April 26, 2016 -

Nice. The only thing that I didn't like is that the time spent in the plantation was too short.

Skip Oak Alley,
Swamp Boat Tour was amazing!

"The above trip was very..."

April 11, 2016 -

The above trip was very good however there was not enough time to see and complete the Oak Alley tour. After viewing the house with a guide which went on a little too long, we were unable to spend time around the grounds etc. We had to change buses and then drop off people at another location. The swamp boat tour was very entertaining and would highly recommend.

"The tours were great! We..."

April 7, 2016 -

The tours were great! We were picked up on time right in front of our Bed and Breakfast. Both tours were very informative and fun. I would highly recommend this tour combo!
